Abstract

Due to the fast development of the plastic food and multi-purpose containers producing technologies, close attention is paid to the compounds used or formed during the production. Bisphenol A (BPA) is one of such compounds used as hardening agent for plastics. Large number of research papers reveal that BPA has adverse effect on humans and animals due to its xenoestrogen nature. Xenoestrogen compounds are also known as Endocrine Disrupting Compounds. It was reported that in special conditions (i.e. high temperature, damages of container) BPA can easily migrate from container to stored food, beverages and cosmetics. Also, the risk of exposure to the toxic effects of BPA to human fetus was reported. For adults, the major symptoms of prolonged exposure of BPA are infertility, breast, ovarian and prostate cancer as well as increased risk of developing endometriosis.
