SYNTHESIS OF DOPAMINE-IMPRINTED POLYMERS AND THEORETICAL ANALYSIS OF INTERMOLECULAR INTERACTIONS IN TEMPLATE-MONOMERS

Abstract

The presented survey concerns the chemistry of imprinted polymers and the selected experiments referred to dopamine imprinted polymers. A bulk synthesis of such polymers was proposed by free-radical cross-linking polymerization of methacrylic acid, 4-vinylpiridine, 1-vinylimidazole, acrylonitrile in the presence of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linker and dopamine hydrochloride as the template molecule in aqueous methanol solution. The ability of imprinted polymers to isolate dopamine was evaluated on the basis of stationary adsorption. The theoretical analysis of intermolecular interactions in the complexes between dopamine cation and each of functional monomers was also discussed, assuming that higher binding energy indicates more suitable monomer for the synthesis.
