BREAST CANCER DISEASE AND NEW COMPOUNDS WITH ANTICANCER ACTIVITY

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common women’s malignant tumour. Many drugs used in chemotherapy are hazardous because of side-effects, therefore, the search for new active compounds is advisable. 3,3’-diindolilomethane (DIM) is known to inhibit DNA synthesis and cell proliferation in human breast cancer cells. It is a natural product produced during the autolytic breakdown of glucobrassicin, that occurs in Crucifereae (cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower). At present, in the Department of Organic Chemistry derivates of  DIM are synthesised, which could be considered as potential chemotherapeutics.
