FATTY ACIDS - CARCINOGENESIS MODIFYING FACTORS

Małgorzata Jelińska

Abstract

There is both epidemiological and experimental evidence, that dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), modify the risk of breast, colon and prostate cancer incidence. This is related to the n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio which should be as 4-5:1. Higher n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio is thought to promote carcinogenesis. PUFAs n-3 appear to protect from tumour incidence.
