Abstract

Triclosan is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent. It is the substance of choice for hospital hygiene, an ingredient in soaps, deodorants, anti-microbial creams, toothpastes, mouthwashes, and other cosmetics. Many recent studies have demonstrated that overuse of triclosan may promote bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
