BIOTERRORISM – THREAT, PREVENTIVE ACTIONS, INTERNATIONAL LAW

Abstract

In this article, the current views on terrorism employing biological weapons are presented. Bioterrorism is defined as intentional pollution (or threat of pollution) of food and water supplies with biological, chemical or radioactive agents, with the goal of causing death or illness in civilian populations, or of disrupting the social, economic or political stability of a country. In the present study, we wish to call attention to risks resulting from the use of biological weapons and to describe the relevant international law and operating procedures applicable to a bioterroristic acts.
